Data Analysis using Stata: A primer for beginners
Data analysis and use to inform progress and performance at the health facility and program level is crucial to plan and allocate resources. EPIMAT Consulting wants to contribute to building capacity to students, health care workers and program officers to analyze and use their own data. To ensure we have the basic skills, EPIMAT Consulting has developed a five-day training course called “Data Analysis using Stata: A primer for beginners”. The course has focused on building the basic competencies of interacting with the Stata and performing basic descriptive and regression analyses. The course uses mixed model whereby we employ short theoretical lectures and more practical exercises analyzing the data with participants.
We encourage you to bring your own data, which increases the drive to invest time and energy in the analysis. We prefer teaching small group of say five to six participants, to ensure we work closely with each participant to build the necessary skills.
We cover the following sessions:
- Knowing your Stata software
- Basic syntax building in Stata
- Importing data to Stata and saving Stata files
- Exploring your data: addressing missing values and working with different variable types
- Graphics in Stata
- Working with multiple Stata files: merge and append
- Tricks on automation in Stata: using macro and loops
- Introduction to descriptive analysis using Stata
- Introduction to regression analysis using Stata
We encourage organizations and programs to build capacity to their staff to increase data analysis and use of the data that we routinely collect.
