TB Epidemiological Assessment in Uganda February 2019

EPIMAT Consulting keeps on growing and work with other countries in Africa, and now it is Uganda. Our Managing Partner, Dr. Francis Mhimbira worked with World Health Organization Global TB Program (WHO GTB) in Geneva Switzerland, WHO AFRO and Uganda National TB and Leprosy Programme to conduct the TB Epidemiological Assessment. This exciting work started from 04th to 15th February 2019. Dr. Francis Mhimbira was joined by Dr. Basel Karo from London, United Kingdom, Uganda TB program staff, WHO Country Office and partners (Defeat TB Uganda) and assessed:

  1. the current national TB surveillance and vital registration systems with particular attention to their capacity to measure the level of and trends in TB disease burden.
  2. the level of, and trends in, TB disease burden.
  3. the effects of TB-specific interventions on TB disease burden in Uganda.
  4. the investment needed to directly measure the trends in disease burden (developed Monitoring and Evaluation investment case).

Dr. Francis had the privilege to visit Kampala and other nearby districts and talked with health care workers and assessed the recording and reporting tools. The TB program has invested to ensure there is functioning TB surveillance system in all health facilities. We look forward to work again with the Uganda TB Program on opportunities to improve TB control.

We thank the Uganda NTLP, WHO GTB, WHO AFRO and WHO Country Office for the immense support during the conduct of this assessment. We look forward to work again with the TB Program and WHO GTB.
